In Memoriam: Pops

Moreen Jacobsen and Pops

Pops (a.k.a. Pauper) Asheville Sheltie has gone to the “Bridge”.

Pops got his name when he arrived in rescue after a seizure in Asheville because he was in such poor condition. He was what most people would say "a rather unattractive sheltie." However it only took me a short time to change his name to Pops, because he reminded me of my own father who aged but never really got old! Pops still had a zest for life, curiosity, and interest in all things. He was alert to his surroundings, even though his eyes were clouded with cataracts and his hearing was completely gone. He still liked to play, but tired quickly. He learned to ride in the car and loved to go to visit friends and enjoyed two trips to the North Carolina beach.

Pops after the Asheville seizure

He would always put his best effort into whatever he was asked to do. But in the end, cancer took him just a year and a half after he arrived in rescue. He left for the Bridge before he was available to be adopted as his case in Asheville is still pending. But he was my dog nonetheless and I believe he will be there at the Bridge waiting for me.

I will always remember him as one of noblest shelties I have ever known. And his generous spirit transformed him in my eyes to a Prince! I feel very grateful that I could give him love and I will hold his spirit close forever.
