About Shawn
Shawn is a happy, gentle boy with a shy and sensitive nature. He enjoys petting and ear scratches, but it takes a little time for him to build enough trust to come close on his own. Once he feels comfortable, he will seek out affection and quietly place himself within reach for those soft scratches he loves. Outdoors, Shawn shows his timid side in sweet wayshe prefers a little space and confidence from his person. If I turn my back, hell head out the door, following behind me down the ramp to the fenced yard. Once he feels secure, he ventures out to explore, sniffing the yard and sometimes indulging in a grass bath before or after taking care of business. If the other dogs are running and playing, hell happily join in or walk the fence line alongside them. Inside, Shawn is very devoted. He follows me from room to room, keeping a comfortable distance. If I turn toward him too quickly, he may dart away briefly, but he always returns as I continue moving. When Im seated, he settles close by, often within arms reach, ready for gentle affection. Recently, hes even started copying one of my other Shelties by giving my toes a few licks after I take off my socksa small sign of his growing confidence and connection. Shawn has not attempted to get on furniture, though I have occasionally lifted him into my lap for some extra love and handling. He accepts this calmly and will also approach on his own for attention. He crates nicely when his food is placed inside, though he needed a bit of guidance when he first arrived. He walks on a leash but has not yet been out in public, so that will be a new experience for him. He hasnt shown interest in toys so far, and sudden noiseslike something being droppedwill startle him, though he quickly recovers and comes back to investigate. Shawn typically naps a few feet away but is quick to join me when I get up, often becoming my quiet shadow. He lives peacefully with five other Sheltiestwo females and three malesand gets along well with everyone. Hes not interested in hierarchy; hes simply happy to be part of the group. He has had free run of the downstairs overnight with no accidents, preferring to do his business outside. He has shown some marking behavior indoors, and belly bands were not a good solution for him, as he quickly removed and chewed them. Since discontinuing their use, that concern has been managed with supervision and routine. Shawn is a charming, sensitive soul who is clearly beginning to enjoy life more each day. With patience, understanding, and a gentle home, he will continue to blossom into a deeply loyal and loving companion.
