In Memoriam: Barnum
|
Barnum (a.k.a. Mr. B)
December 2002 - March 2017
|
We were blessed in January of 2005 to add Barnum to our family. He had a Sable Merle coat with a beautiful shine, and he was tall for his breed. We had been warned
that Shelties were barkers, and that they shed a lot. He did neither. He only barked at cats and squirrels or when he played fetch. He didn’t bark at visitors, nor jump
up on people or furniture. We had wanted a young dog who would be playful and we were lucky enough to get just that in Barnum.
Barnum loved to play fetch and take walks. He traveled very well and we took him to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Florida. Even though he lived a quiet life
with us, we never worried about him around our grandchildren, for he was a tolerant, gentle soul. He got along well with our three granddogs, too. True to his breed,
he followed us everywhere we went - our shadow.
In his last years he was losing his sight, his back legs became weak, and he had some other health issues. He handled it all with dignity and perseverance.
It broke our hearts to say goodbye to him on Saturday, March 11, 2017. There was no finer dog we could have had. Rest in peace, Mr. B. You remain forever in our hearts.
