"Mom, do you really have to take another picture?" |
You came to sheltie rescue as a stray from the Pittsboro Animal Shelter, one of our volunteers had seen you running loose and tried
to lure you into her car, but you wouldn’t come. Animal Control picked you up that day and sheltie rescue checked on you daily until
you could be released. You were so frail and thin, we didn’t expect to much. After some testing it was determined you were in
congestive heart failure and over the next many months we would work with our veterinarian to tweak your meds so you would feel better.
Eventually, you became a part of my pack, making sure my house was your house (in more ways than one). You were most demanding when the water
bowl was empty or it was time for a meal you’d let me know with your kind barks. Often, you looked at me with confusion, not really sure why
you were living with me, but you went with it and eventually decided you had to be anywhere I was or you would frantically search for me.
Even a trip to the bathroom would set your anxiety in motion.
No dog to wake me up in the middle of the night, no dog to step over when getting my clothes together, no dog watching over me as I take
my shower. No dog following my every move in the house. Casper politely collected all the rawhides and put them in one big stack last night,
no one to share them with. Occasionally you would sit next to me on the couch and let me give you the love you deserved, every now and then
you’d give me a few licks to show your appreciation.
Dandy, I know you are safely at the bridge and your little heart free from its ailments. I’ll miss your constant companionship…until we meet again at the bridge.
Your foster mom,
Sherri
